"Smoking at Entrance. radiotherapy"

About: Ninewells Hospital

(as a service user),

I was at the entrance to Radiotherapy at Ninewells taking a phone call to my daughter.

The 4 patients arrived at started to smoke right beside the No Smoking signs.   They gave me verbal abuse when I pointed to the signs.

The is at the entrance to Radiotherapy for cancer treatment patients and smoking ban should be rigorously enforced

Dear Canmz65, my name is Damian Parr, Head of Therapeutic radiography services and firstly I am sorry to hear that you where subjected to verbal abuse at the entrance to the hospital as this is certainly not the behaviour we wish for the public attending the hospital to be met with.

You are absolutely correct that NHS Tayside follow legislation that states it is an offence to smoke within 15 metres of the hospital. Please, if you are in this situation again, report it to reception and we will inform the site manager as I have done so with your experience.

Thankyou for reporting this and hope you do not have to encounter this in the future.

Wishing you well

Damian
