"My son's treatment"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

I contacted 111 - after pressing buttons to select different options and waiting for over 10 minutes for someone to answer the phone they triaged and said that someone from my local Out of Hours GP service would call back within 2 hours.

My son's ear pain was so bad he was in tears and rolling around on the floor. I took him to Out of Hours but they said they were too busy and to go back home and wait for the call back. Ridiculous, there were 2 people in the waiting area, hardly rammed! To send an 8-yr-old home who was in so much pain.

There are no walk-in clinics in Stockport so had no choice but ED. They were brilliant, the doctor listened and showed empathy. (They shouldn't have to deal with non-emergency cases that GPs should be dealing with, in  my view). My son's ear drum perforated later that day.

Thank you ED for helping, but Out of Hours need to improve.

Good morning,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your recent experience in the Children’s Emergency Department. I am sorry you didn’t receive the necessary support from your local Out of Hours service but pleased your son received the care he needed in the ED. I hope he is feeling more comfortable.

Your feedback will be shared with the Emergency Department Manager and Matron who I know will appreciate hearing this.

Kind regards,

Aoife Isherwood
