"This service was amazing"

About: Older People’s Services / Hospital at Home Northern Sector

(as a relative),

My father was taken ill. I phoned the GP. Their 1st answer was to phone for an ambulance.

When ambulance arrived, Shane, one of the paramedic that has been out with my dad a number of times, said dad's obs were OK but he definitely needed IV antibiotics. But we would have to wait ages in the A&E. He told me about this At Home Service and got in touch on our behalf.

Within an hour we had nurses, 2 doctors etc doing his bloods checking him all over and his 1st dose of IV antibiotics. This service was amazing. Dad being able to stay at home was brilliant and all the nurses and doctors, pharmacists were all so friendly. It is a great service.

Thanks for your kind feedback.

Northern Ireland ambulance service work very closely with the team and are able to refer patients that would otherwise require hospital treatment.

I agree staying at home is better for the patient and family if treatment required and hospital at home aim where possible to prevent admission.

We aim to complete admission and commence treatment within 2 hours of referral and this has been the case with your relative.

I hope Shane is made aware of how excellent a job he provided to you and your family. I will certainly pass on your feedback to all the staff within hospital at home.

Many thanks
