Was warmly welcomed on my arrival by staff, shown to my bed and provided with all the necessary gowns and bedding, plus a half glass of water to save me dying of thirst. I really appreciated that.
Then there were visits from various members of staff - surgeon, anaesthetists and nurses, which I found very reassuring and informative. Down to theatre, well wrapped up. Felt small jab in wrist for anaesthetic, nice plastic mask, so much better than the old rubber masks which smelled awful. Off to sleep in a wink or two.
Next minute or so it seemed, back in the ward to sleep it off. Not too uncomfortable. No nausea. Fell asleep, woke up, fell asleep, woke up. Repeat. Properly awake around four hours after going in. Given water, then a cup of tea, and a sandwich of my choice and a pot of yogurt. Phoned my husband, who came to collect me and was able to walk out to the car with him.
Goodbye all you lovely people who looked after me. Thank you so much for your care.
