"Excellent care from all staff"

About: Dr Gray's Hospital / Maternity care

(as a parent/guardian),

We have reviously written about a very traumatising experience in Aberdeen with the birth of our child.  We were extremally stressed about the idea of having to go back into hospital, but the staff in Elgin maternity ward are exceptional. When we arrived Jodi was very kind and calm with us and made sure all 3 of us (me, wife, and baby) were able to relax and helped to reduce any stress of our stay.

One moment that truly stood out regarding the high level of care was when a member of staff was trying to take blood from our baby and it wasn't going well. Jodi was not present at the time but realised this was causing significant stress to all 3 of us and politely and very professionally intervened with an alternative option to reduce stress to baby and mum.

Kayleigh worked during the days helping my wife and child and was always very helpful and cheerful. No task was any bother and she was always ready to help with a smile. We felt cared for and safe and confident in the care we received.

Diane was the midwife working the nights and was always a welcome site. She was always cheerful, chatty, reassuring, and ready to help with anything she could so that mum and baby could rest and recover more easily. We are new parents and keen to learn anything we can. We spent a whirlwind time during our hospital attendance for the birth, where any questions were dismissed and things were quickly done for you instead of helping you, leaving you more stressed. In Elgin With Diane this was the opposite. Any questions or concerns we had she was more than happy to run through with us, teach and make sure we were happy and confident with. One of the big things for me was how to wrap our baby in a blanket so she was secure and easy to pick up safely, the burrito wrap. She showed me with a smile on her face and made sure i was happy and confident about how to do it. A small thing but a huge difference for new parents to have this level of care and consideration.

My wife was in for the nights and Diane frequently came to chat with her and help reduce her worries and stress about being a new mum and the issues we were having. Diane is a very proud mum and helped boost my wife's own confidence in her abilities. When we left my wife kept saying she misses her.

Nothing was too much to ask. Diane helped through the nights with a smile on her face and even changed our baby and helped with feeds when my wife was exhausted to let her rest that little bit longer.

A big thank you to Carol for looking after us with a smile and making sure we were well fed as well as cared for. After a very tiring few days ( i had been on the ward to support my wife until late at night) She realised how drained we were and managed to rustle up some tasty snacks for us both and also a very cute pair of Mr&Mrs dog mugs for a brew that made us smile from ear to ear. This gave us a calm enjoyable moment together in what had been a very stressful few weeks. Thank you.

A big thank you to Rebeccca. She was always ready top help with a smile and was very insistent my wife should buzz if she needed anything.  This gave me a bit of a chuckle as my wife didn't want to bother the staff.

A big thank you to Morina. She was friendly, kind and helpful and very caring and helped a lot with the bottle feeds and using the little syringes for breastfeeding. She also went above and beyond to make sure we were all set for the journey home.

Thank you to all.

Dear sunkinthesand,

I was delighted to read your wonderful reflections of the care that your family received from our midwifery team at Dr Gray's. It's very kind of you to mention so many members of the team individually and to highlight the ways that they gave you an exceptional experience, from reducing stress during blood tests to the simple gesture of matching mugs for a well deserved new parent brew!

I'll make sure Jodi, Kayleigh, Diane, Carol, Rebecca and Marina receive a copy of your kind words.

All the very best to you, your wife and your baby.

Kind regards,

Louise
