"Emotion Regulation Therapy and EUPD"

About: Thurrock Services / Inclusion Thurrock Psychological Therapies Service

(as the patient),

I was placed into a group session that ran for 24 weeks that targeted Emotion Regulation (specifically for EUPD/BPD) Joe, the group leader was fantastic and kept us all very engaged. The group was a safe space and a welcoming environment in every session. I’ve learned a lot of very useful skills and coping mechanisms that have made a noticeable impact on my struggles with EUPD and regulating my emotions.

I started the group as a very troubled individual with no understanding of myself or my emotions, I was constantly experiencing intense emotions that obstructed my daily life. Now when I do experience these intense emotions I can handle the situation much better and deescalate the situation quickly. I can effectively recognise my emotions and know how not to think and act in order to avoid triggering off intense emotions. I have learned crisis survival skills and these have been implemented into my life and successfully helped me through the toughest times.

I feel confident upon ending the sessions that the skills and feedback I have received over the weeks will carry through into daily life. I also feel confident knowing I can always be referred back should I need to after the consolidation period. I now feel hopeful that with time and practice of the skills I will eventually no longer meet the criteria for EUPD.

Thank you all very much for your service, I’m going to miss my group sessions but feel confident and hopeful in what the future will bring!

Hi moonxo,

Thank you for sharing your experience in the Psychological Therapy Service. It sounds like you’ve worked hard in your time in the Emotion Regulation Group with Joe, and that the group has been helpful for you in learning and understanding how to cope better with intense emotions. I am glad to hear that the group has provided you a safe space and welcoming environment for you to feel confident to learn the skills and the feedback you received was helpful to carry through into daily life. I will pass on your feedback to Joe and to the rest of the team.

All the best for your future.

Best Wishes,

Ricci
