"This has set me back massively"

About: General practices in Greater Glasgow & Clyde

(as the patient),

I had an appointment with a doctor recently in the Eastwood Health and Care Centre. When I went in to talk about my eating disorder - which the doctor knows has been bad in the past few months and I’ve lost a significant amount of weight - I feel they were rude and made comments that have set me back massively.

It was obvious to me that the doctor hadn’t read my notes as they thought my ED started a couple of weeks ago. They knew I was struggling with a restrictive ED and told me the food I was managing to eat was bad food and unhealthy.

They then said there was good and bad foods - when there’s not, there’s just food. They told me to not eat carbs and I can lose weight healthily that way. I literally have an eating disorder.

They also backtracked on a promise they made to me when I last saw them and is now making me wait another 6 months, which has completely shattered the trust I had in them (I don’t trust them at all now) and I feel they  basically just completely dismissed everything about my ED.

This has set me back massively. I didn’t even manage to eat afterwards due to their comments and I will really struggle to eat because my two safe foods have just been deemed unhealthy and bad food.

Dear moony25

I am sorry to hear about your experience with a GP at Eastwood Health and Care Centre and that you feel dismissed, and your experiences have negatively affected your trust in your GP.

GP practices in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde operate their own feedback and complaints systems and are not registered to respond to feedback received via Care Opinion. As the GP practice will not be able to see this feedback can I suggest that you contact the Practice Manager to discuss these issues directly?

Alternatively, you may want to contact the Family Health Service Complaints Team who can provide advice about raising a complaint about GP practices.

GCHSCPComplaints@ggc.scot.nhs.uk

The Patient Advice and Support Service (PASS) may also be able to support you with this issue. This is an independent and confidential organisation. PASS can help you give feedback, raise concerns or make a complaint about any health service, including GP practices.

You can contact PASS on 0800 917 2127 or visit their website at Patient Advice & Support Service | Citizens Advice Scotland (www.cas.org.uk ).

Regards

Lucy
