"A ward to be treasured in a hospital that seems outstanding"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Surgical Elective Unit

(as the patient),

I was in recently for a lower bowel resection and it’s scary stuff. I’m able to cover my fear with a jokey personality but I was a long way out of my comfort zone.

From the moment I arrived until the last few moments of leaving (they rushed me my dinner early) - the nurses were way above and beyond good. They were quite a bit better than good. They were kind and funny: we had fun together. And they never pulled faces at my stoma bag. Or showed anything other than kindness and extreme efficiency.

This is the NHS at its very best. Not just nurses - obviously doctors, physios and dieticians. I miss them now I am home. And I watched them work - hard. Hard and long shifts but always with a smile.

Yep, this is a ward to be treasured in a hospital that seems outstanding.
