"Went the extra mile again and again"

About: Perth Royal Infirmary / High Dependency Unit Physiotherapy Services / Physiotherapy Pulmonary Rehabilitation

(as the patient),

I was admitted to PRI’s HDU. I can honestly say that the treatment and patient care was EXEMPLARY. They went the extra mile again and again and again.

As above, I had a serious respiratory issue, with blood oxygen levels at 85 at one point.

It was a very stressful situation indeed.

I am actually getting quite emotional writing this….I cannot speak highly enough about the team in the HDU. The treatment, care and consideration they gave me was EXEMPLARY. They went ‘above and beyond’ again and again and again.

They provided words of comfort when needed them most (when there was a concern I had a PE). Over the course of the next week the dedicated team tried different methods / approaches to improve my blood oxygen levels, which they managed to do.

The whole team played a part in my treatment / positive experience  (including Doctors, Nurses, Assistant Nurses, Physios, cleaning staff).

It was clear to me that there was excellent communication between the team members and different shifts, as all were up to date with my latest status.

I have experience of managing teams and I can tell from my observations that there was a very positive team dynamic, with a dedicated, supportive  and friendly culture evident to see.

From my conversations with the team members I could tell they enjoyed being part of the HDU / CCT team and were proud of the part they played in it.

I will tell many people about the superb care I received, as I am conscious the positive experiences aren’t shared as regularly / visibly as the less positive  coverage.

Dr Ali is something of a legend and I can’t thank him highly enough for his and his team’s support, which ultimately saved my life.

Every single touchpoint with the team was positive), but I would like to name check some of these stars : Christy, Karen and  Gaynor were at the forefront of my treatment in the most challenging of days and were simply brilliant. Alison, Kevin, Gill, Jane, Ruth, Yvonne were also straight out of the top drawer too. Alison and Josie made sure I was extremely looked after ref food and drink / general support, and Alison was always friendly, sociable and encouraging in the morning when she came in to clean my room (the whole ward was immaculate). Lee-Ann in pharmacy dept was a credit to the hospital too as, was Robert, Scott  and Fergus. Lindsay and her excellent physio team made a real difference to my recovery.

I passed on my sincere compliments to the lovely Donna (SCN) and Aline (Lead Nurse), but I wanted to ensure the whole team’s incredible efforts were recognised. Apologies if I have missed anyone.

It would be lovely and highly appropriate if someone from NHS Tayside could share thus feedback with the team. If there was a NHS Tayside ‘Team of the Year’ competition then I would find it hard if this particular team could be beaten!

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like to discuss further.

Thank you again to the most amazing team!
