"Attending Cognitive Behavioural Therapy"

About: Adult Psychological Therapies Service / Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

(as the patient),

I have suffered from Social Anxiety for over 20 years.  This manifested itself in me being unable to leave my home and participate in any social activities.  As a result of this my consultant referred me for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in Newry, County Down.

I recently attended a CBT course in the Mournes Resource Centre, with my key worker Fiona.  I felt that the course was vey helpful as it taught me techniques and skills to help deal with my condition and to recognise future triggers/avoidance behaviours in social situations.

It was also useful in identifying negative thought patterns and fear response behaviours and then testing them by writing down social situations and analysing and dispelling negative core beliefs.

I found it very useful after the course finished for my key worker to signpost other groups and activities as a follow up to help continue my mental health journey.

Dear Paul B

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of how Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with Fiona has been of benefit to you. It is great to hear that the work you have completed together has enabled you to address your social anxiety and I hope that you are able to continue to use the techniques and skills you have learned as part of your ongoing recovery.

I will share your feedback with Fiona and the wider CBT Team

Best wishes

Danielle Ryan, CBT Service Coordinator
