"Loss of pregnancy, lack of contact"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I started bleeding at 8 weeks and was invited in for a scan that found a baby the size of 6 weeks and no heart beat. I was advised to wait a week and see if anything changes and to call if I have any changes in bleeding or anything else.

I rang because my bleeding became heavy and my back pain was unbearable. I was told I'd get a call back. I missed the call back as I was on the toilet due to the bleeding and pain and tried calling back but no incoming calls are received and didn't want to clog the line at the centre so presumed due to the nature of what they deal with I'd be given another try by the midwife but no.

I then rang later in the afternoon because whilst playing with my daughter I'd passed my pregnancy. I was left on the bathroom floor with a failed pregnancy sat on a pad in front of me and no clue what to do or how to comprehend what was happening. I was given no time to explain when I rang and was just told I'd get a call back. That call never came.

So I was just left all alone to cope with the loss of a pregnancy, not knowing anything. What do you do with this thing on a pad when a week earlier you were making a list of names and looking at car seats? Do you make the decision to flush it away down the toilet, bin it? All I wanted was some guidance from the people that are supposed to help.

I rang the next morning to make sure all appointments I held were cancelled and I wanted to be completely checked out of their care. I was told it was 'just an oversight' that I didn't get a call back and was left in a situation no one should be left in.
