When my little girl arrived, we got off to a bit of a rocky start with breastfeeding as she wasn't reaching her birth weight. Breastfeeding was hugely important to me, but it was starting to feel impossible and I was making plans to switch to formula feeding, until my Health Visitor put me in touch with the infant feeding co-ordinator Jill.
Jill came for home visits to support us, was always available to contact, and quickly got us a referral to the tongue tie clinic. She was patient, empathetic and incredibly knowledgeable, conveying her findings to us very well. She listened, advised and supported me in equal measures. She helped us to protect the breastfeeding relationship, and the closeness/bonding opportunity it provides, even when in the "triple feeding" phase.
It was amazing to have consistent support from someone I grew to know and trust. I can't have been an easy person to work with, as I was struggling with severe postpartum anxiety, but she never made me feel like I wasn't being heard. She will always back Mums 100%.
I'm so proud to say that my breastfeeding journey is still going strong, and that we've made it to 6 months - a milestone that seemed impossible in those early days and now only seems like the beginning. Without the support I received, we definitely wouldn't have made it.
