"I consistently get a gold star service"

About: Perth Royal Infirmary / Clinical Investigations Unit

(as the patient),

I attended the CIU over a period of five days for treatment.  The staff are amazing and work as such a good team.

Jackie, Gill, Mhairi, Hazel, Catherine and the whole team are knowledgeable and caring in their approach.  They understand how the treatment that I get works and is to be administered, which makes a huge difference to my wellbeing and my experience in the ward. They provide true person-centred care in a personable and happy approach.

The only improvements I would suggest are in relation to the centralised booking system.  This is the first year that they have implemented such a system and although the senior clerical at the central point is really helpful, the communication and referral system between the consultant and the booking system seems cumbersome and not as efficient.  I had to chase up the referral several times with my consultant's secretary to ensure I was scheduled in for the treatment that I need in time for winter approaching due to my health condition.  This involved me going back and forward between the different departments. I think if CIU were responsible for booking the appointments, as was the case before, this would make a much more straightforward and person-centred process.

CIU has also recently been moved to another area of the hospital.  I appreciate this move took place to support capacity within the hospital.  However, I don't feel the heating system is conducive for client needs.  There are air vents within the room that blow in and circulate air, therefore the room was cold for each day of the treatment. The lovely staff were on hand with blankets to make patients feel as comfortable as possible.  However, it would be positive if this issue could be addressed, especially if you are having to sit for long periods of time to receive the treatment.

I cannot commend the staff enough at CIU. They make the long and time consuming treatment as easy and tolerable as possible, always on hand with a good cup of tea and care with a smile.   It is so reassuring for me to go in every year and to know that the staff in CIU all know me, understand my heath needs and that I consistently get a gold star service. Thank you, CIU staff.

Dear May17,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on Care Opinion highlighting the great care and attention you get from the staff. It is lovely to get such feedback and the team will be delighted to hear this.

Centralised booking has recently been introduced by the Administration and Clerical team to streamline the process between the two Clinical Investigation Units which allows oversite of capacity within the two units and appoint in a safe and efficient way. I am sorry that on this occasion the process was cumbersome and has certainly not provided the standard we would expect.

We will pick up your comments about the heating vents and speak to our colleagues in estates to see if anything can be done to make the temperature more comfortable.

I am pleased that you get reassurance from attending CIU and will share with the team your thanks and praise for their gold star service!
