"I couldn't have asked for more assistance and reassurance"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire

(as the patient),

I have always found anything health related terrifying, especially needles. I recently had my first blood test. I worked myself up horribly, hardly slept and cried most of the time.

I had an appointment which had to be cancelled and rearranged for the next day so I was even more worked up waiting another day, but the nurse (Lana) on the phone was so considerate and made me feel able to do this.

I came down to my health clinic in Coatbridge with my husband, crying and thinking there was no way I was going through with it. Lana called my name 5 minutes later and she knew who I was (from yesterday's phone call and my teary face no doubt). She was reassuring from the start. Total concentration on what I needed and how to make me feel more comfortable.

Lana listened and reassured me I could do it and she was there to help in any way. She spoke me through every step from pressing for a vein to the needle going in, asking about my day plans to the needle then coming out. I couldn't have asked for more assistance and reassurance from such a lovely women. She really made the whole experience manageable and I have Lana to thank for making my first blood test and fears seem so doable in comparison to previous experiences and the therapy I've been doing to overcome such fears.

I told Lana all of this and asked if I ever need bloods again if I could request her as I've never had such a seamless experience for vaccines before and being my first blood test I was extremely nervous. Thank you so much Lana and Coatbridge Faraday Practice for putting me at ease. I can't believe I done it! I'm so proud!

Dear Teddy777,

Thank you for sharing your experience of Faraday Practice and Lana.

I can absolutely empathise with a fear of needles so congratulations on being so brave and getting that first blood test out the way! It sounds like Lana has given you the most incredible support and was very compassionate and understanding about fears and how to assist patients with medical related fears.

GP’s are independent contractors and are responsible for investigating and responding to any feedback about their service, sadly they are not registered to respond directly to feedback through Care Opinion.

I will be more than happy to pass on your thanks and kind words to Lana.

Kind Regards,

Jenni
