"Cervical Cancer Treatment "

About: The Royal Glamorgan Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a relative),

My mum was diagnosed with cervical cancer and had a total hysterectomy recently at the Royal Glamorgan. We are truly grateful for the very swift service provided.

Firstly I would like to mention Mr Watermeyer who was mums consultant. He is obviously the elite gynaecologist for the Cwm Taff health board. His bedside manner was amazing as was his honesty regarding the diagnosis of cancer and mum fully trusted him to give the best possible care and future outlook. The cancer was picked up at a very early stage and hopefully the surgery is all that is required to fully cure the disease. We are eternally grateful to Mr Watermeyer, we could not have received better care even if we paid top dollar, he is worth his weight in gold.

All the staff on ward 4 were also amazing, there were many patients on the ward having routine minor surgery but the extra care and attention given to mum was great. As a cancer patient the staff understand not only is she battling the disease itself, but it is also a mental battle. Mum was very insecure and fragile after finding out she had cancer, so when she had the surgery she didn't like being on her own. The ward sisters were more than happy to allow a relative to stay every night whilst mum was in hospital in her side room. It's not just the physical care but also the mental care is just as important. We are so grateful for the very prompt services provided and mum is now recovering well at home with a very positive outlook.

I really hope they do not downgrade the services at the Royal as this will have a very big impact on our community. Maybe future patients will not be so lucky as mum to receive such swift and amazing local care.
