"My brother’s treatment"

About: Royal Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency Royal Victoria Hospital / Acute Medical Ward

(as a relative),

My Brother was taken to A&E in the Royal recently. He had a bad infection and was admitted. Unfortunately there were no beds so he stayed in A&E, however the treatment and care was fantastic.

My brother is wheelchair bound and had regular skin check with the ED staff. I went home and I rang to ask how he was and got Brige from patient flow who went the extra mile to get me an update.

I would also like to thank the Claire and the two Sarahs who were looking after him. He unfortunately got worse and went to resus and got plenty of attention and the staff were under extreme pressure.

My brother eventually went to 7C and he was well cared for on the ward, a big thank you to the staff especially Lorraine  and Stevan for helping him and to staff nurse Christine who rang and updated me.

Also can I thank the deputy sister who helped his complex discharge and ensured he got safely home. My brother said he could not say enough about the care he received. We are vey grateful for everything.

Dear mercurykx93,

My name is Linsey Sheerin, Service Manager for Urgent and Emergency Care at Belfast Trust. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on care opinion. I am sincerely sorry for the delay in your brother being transferred to an inpatient ward, unfortunately sustained pressures within Health and Social Care often means that patients spend longer in the department than we wish them to. Despite this, thank you for your kind words, please do not underestimate the impact they will have on staff working in very challenging circumstances. I will ensure your comments are shared with the team, Briege, Claire and the two Sarah's.

I hope that your brother is well and continuing to make progress in his recovery.

Linsey

Update posted by mercurykx93 (a relative)

My brothers care in ED was fantastic and we have nothing but praise for the hard working staff. The system is broken in my opinion, however the staff made a very difficult time easier. My brother said the staff never stopped.
