I was part of the Continuity of Midwifery Carer Service (CoMC) service since my 12 week booking appointment when I met my named midwife Grace and maternity support worker Vicky. Being part of the service meant I was seen at every appointment by the team and if not Grace then one of the other midwives who I also got to know. One of the midwives Suzanne was present for my elective section which was invaluable as she was a familiar face in such an anxious time and that helped keep me calm and focused. The midwives also visited at home which was lovely as I got to see a familiar face each time.
I had a previous difficult pregnancy and birth experience during Covid. I felt very alone in the antenatal and post natal period in terms of professional services due to the circumstances and did not feel supported. Being part of the CoMC service has definitely benefited me and has provided me with a very positive experience and has almost helped me heal from my previous experiences.
I was consultant led and for the majority of my appointments was also seen by my named consultant which was invaluable as I did not have to explain my situation time and time again.
I felt listened to, valued and well supported by Grace, all of the midwives I encountered from the CoMC team, the support worker Vicky and my Consultant.
The fact that this service provides continuity is fantastic and should be the way forward for all pregnant ladies.
I would most certainly encourage anyone to become part of this service. I couldn’t praise them enough.
My overall experience has been so lovely because of the care and support from the CoMC team.
