"His excellent communication and caring skills made a huge difference"

About: Causeway Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as a carer),

I attended the ED in Causeway Hospital with my mother, who is in her 80s and had severe back pain. We had been with the GP and the GP Dr on Call the previous week with no success. The ED was busy and we had a 6 hour wait.

Dr Kalu called us and took us to a private room. He talked to Mum about her back. She was tearful and he was very understanding, looking to me to fill in gaps in the medical history. He explained the options very clearly to Mum and came up with a plan for adjusted medication that would hopefully work. We left the ED very satisfied  with what had happened.

I just wanted to say thank you to Dr Kalu for his approach on what was a very busy afternoon. To us, his excellent communication and caring skills made a huge difference.

Hi Elizabeth2121

My name is Victoria McCrory and I am the Assistant Clinical Services Manager in Causeway ED. Thank you very much for taking the time to leave this compliment, particularly at a time when your mum has been unwell.

I wish to apologise for the 6 hour wait to see a clinician, at times of increased pressures our waiting times can be extended, however we as a team are continuing to work on reducing these waiting times as much as we can.

I am glad that you were satisfied with the care your mum received, and I will ensure that this compliment is passed onto our medical and senior management teams. Most importantly I will ensure that Dr Kalu receives this positive feedback, and I have no doubt the Dr will be delighted to hear same.

I hope your mum is recovering well and her pain is easing.

Kind Regards

Victoria McCrory
