I attended an appointment in the Oxygen Clinic in South Tyrone Hospital. I was nervous about getting my blood taken as it was from my main artery. Before my visit I had been told that it would be very painful. Shane put my mind completely at ease and before I even knew it, it was all over. His professionalism, talent and personality was excellent. I had lots of questions for him regarding my condition (sarcoidosis/pulmonary fibrosis), he was very patient and listened and had great knowledge and was able to answer and advise me. He also informed me of groups etc in my area which would be of benefit to me and referred me.
I then had an appointment with Jean, the physiotherapist, who had me walk between two set points to test my oxygen levels. Again I was greeted courteously and my concerns listened to. I needed to have a period of rest before walking with the aid of oxygen and Jean brought me a cuppa and some biscuits. The thought of having to use oxygen was and is a daunting prospect to me and Jean was very sympathetic towards me and my feelings. She explained the benefits of it for me and for my everyday life. She also explained how to use oxygen, the hazards of it and how best to store it.
I had my daughter with me and both Shane and Jean were friendly and welcoming to her also. I would consider my visit to these two professionals as one of my best experiences in a health care setting for some time.
