"Prioritising patients properly"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a carer),

Absolutely appalled at the care my mum received in A&E.  She was taken in by ambulance after a heart scare, but even though she told A&E she has mobility problems with MS she was left in a wheelchair for eight hours.

Why on earth wasn't a bed or at least a trolley found for her considering her disability?  She was in a terrible way after with huge swollen ankles - I feel this is an awful way to treat patients, especially those suffering from so many conditions. If she didn't need to be there then the paramedics wouldn't have taken her in and put her with walk-ins complaining of things like a headache!

It was an Angina attack and she was eventually discharged with medication.  I appreciate that your staff are doing their best, but please ask your triage staff to prioritise properly and consider those with lifetime conditions and disabilities.

We are very sorry to hear of your poor experience in A&E. Please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01634 825216 and they will be able to assist you.

Kind regards,

The Patient Experience Team
