"Abandoned from family"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Mental Health

(as a relative),

Mum in ward 24 monklands hospital where was sectioned because of dementia. Ward having very limited visits and on many occasions can't book visits and can go many days where can't visit mum. When we see her she settles and get more relaxed and gets a lot from visits but is being denied this family time. Have read lots about NHS Lanarkshire having John's campaign about family contact for dementia patients so why not in place in the dementia ward. Mum can't leave cause of the order and we can't visit. Where is mum's human rights. How can NHS Lanarkshire breach people's human rights in this way. Understand they don't want everyone in at same time but only having visit times between 2 and 6 doesn't work with most working families. Surely it's better to spread visits throughout the day

Dear Frustrated Son,

Thank you for sharing your experience on Care Opinion of your Mum's stay in ward 24 at University Hospital Monklands.

I am so sorry to hear the trouble you are having visiting you Mum. I can only imagine how frustrating it has been. I have spoke with the Senior Nurse who has confirmed that a change has been made to visiting hours in recognition of how difficult it is for working families and in order to provide patients more opportunity to see their families and help with their recovery. The new visiting times should be updated within the ward, and the Senior Charge Nurse would be able to confirm this as well when you are in.

I am wishing you and your family all the best for the future.

Kind Regards,

Jenni

Hi Jenni, thanks for coming back with such a great resolution to so many patients and families. Can I check if Johns Campaign is applicable in ward 24. As you will be aware this is used in other wards in NHS Lanarkshire around person centred visiting around dementia
