About: Balfour Hospital

(as a service user),

Seen by nurse in outpatients - didn't introduce themselves to explain who they were or give their name. No thought to preserving my dignity where possible and said well I'm going to see you without your clothes on anyway. Felt really humiliated by the way I was treated.

I am so very sorry to hear of your experience yesterday in The Balfour Outpatients department. NHS Orkney expect all our patients to be treated with dignity and respect and I am very sorry you felt humiliated by the way you were treated.

It would be really helpful to understand a little more about what happened and if you felt able to make contact, we would be happy to look into this further. You can email our feedback team on ork.feedback@nhs.scot

In the meantime, please be assured, I will share your comments with the Senior Charge Nurse for the area and ask her to highlight with all staff the need to ensure all patients are cared for in a way they feel supported and valued.

I wanted to provide an update to advise that your experience was shared with the Senior Charge Nurse and staff reminded of the importance of introductions and treating patients as they would wish to be treated.
