I attended the New Victoria Hospital for a Laparoscopic bilateral inguinal hernia repair in early October 2023. I checked in and a short time later was greeted by Silag (Silvia) who introduced herself and said she would be taking care of me. She settled me in to the ward and explained what would be happening. She was accompanied by a pre registered Nurse and Silvia was taking the time to explain to her what she was doing.
I was met by the Anaesthetist who explained what would be happening. I asked her a few questions which she kindly answered for me. I was also met by the surgeon and another Doctor who thoroughly explained what would be happening and what to expect. I was second on the theatre list so would be going to theatre late morning. I was looked after by Silvia in the meantime.
I was walked along to theatre by a Nurse. Apologies that I cannot remember her name. I told her of a couple of worries that I had and she tried to put me at ease.
We then arrived in the Anaesthetic Room where the nurse passed on my concerns to the Anaesthetist whose name was Paddy I think (normally works at Queen Elizabeth Hospital). He addressed my worries and put me at ease. The whole Anaesthetic Team were brilliant and kept me distracted from what was happening which was great.
I came round in recovery and remember being really chatty with the nurse who chatted with me.
I was able to return to the ward soon after where Silvia took care of me until I was ready to go home.
I went along to the discharge lounge to wait on my wife and kids. When they arrived I was accompanied out to meet them by another nurse. She offered to carry my bag.
All in all a great experience. All of the staff were friendly and put me at ease. The hospital facilities were really clean. Thank you for taking care of me.
