"Disappointing attitude of a staff member"

About: Lurgan Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a relative),

I was recently at Lurgan Day hospital with a family member and a few other patients were there. One man had an interpreter with him and a member of staff constantly referred to him as a foreigner. I found this very derogatory for the elderly patient.

This is amazing service offered at Lurgan hospital but I found this very disappointing. The rest of the staff were so friendly and helpful.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback about your recent experience at Lurgan Day Hospital.

I am sorry that this was your experience and you observed this from one of the staff members.

It is important that our service users are all made to feel that they are valued and that diversity is celebrated and our use of language is important when speaking with service users.

I will request that the staff working within this area see your feedback and will encourage all the staff to complete refresher training on equality, good relations and human rights within the next two weeks
