"Birth in SWAH"

About: Children’s Services / Health Visiting Community Midwifery / Dungannon & Tyrone South West Acute Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

My first baby was born in July 2019, my midwives who I dealt with prenatal were amazing until I stepped foot into the hospital to have my son. I was over due induced and then ended with an emergency c section. I found my midwives very dismissive. I was left alone in the middle of covid in a room not knowing what was going to happen to me or my baby that this induction was just supposed to work . My son ended up spending a week in NICU. I was distraught.

My community midwives who cared for me at home were outstanding.

I fell pregnant again and was due my second baby September 2022, consultant led, every clinic I went to the staff were great. I opted for a planned section due to my son’s notes being misplaced to then be told that they had put the wrong H&C number on his file. This alone was so stressful as nobody could find them until I filed a formal complaint. Durring my stay in swah for the birth of my daughter it was completely different from my son’s birth. I was brought in early due to a bleed and monitored, every midwife I dealt with showed so much compassion especially Tamara she kept me so calm and reassured me through the delivery of my baby girl & Lisa, she cared for me and my daughter in recovery right until we went home and she was absolutely amazing, a huge help when I gave baby the first breast feed - something I did not get to do with my son. The health care assistants as well were outstanding, so lovely and kind and patient.

Community midwives, again were brilliant as well as Jane the health visitor nothing was too big or too small to ask her.
