"Waiting for a bed"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Ambulatory Care University Hospital Monklands / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

I was admitted to A&E Department at Monklands Hospital recently due to GP referral.  I was feeling quite unwell and knew it was really busy, I asked for pain relief then again an hour later.

I was seen by nurse at triage, bloods took, still sitting waiting to see doctor. Asked for pain relief, still nothing. Nurse came with sandwiches and apologised for wait, sent husband home as was told they were waiting on a bed for me, but I was still sitting there at 9 am the next morning.

Then I was moved round to the medical ambulatory unit, where I had rest of the tests done and sat the rest of the day, totaling 24 hrs.

The nurses here did their best but weren't happy someone in my condition was left sitting all that time.

Dear Malc125,

Thank you for taking the time to feedback about your experience in University Hospital Monklands, emergency department and ambulatory care.

I am so sorry to hear that you had to attend our emergency department as you were feeling so unwell, and that when you were waiting to be seen had to ask several times for pain relief. It must have been a very worrying time, particularly as you were waiting for a bed and it took a total of 24 hours from arriving to having the tests completed. This is certainly not the standard of care we expect to deliver to our patients and I am so sorry that this was your experience.

We always want to make things better for our patients and it would be really helpful if you could contact our Patient Affairs department at University Hospital Monklands on the below details so that they can gather further information and understand the issue in more detail.

PatientAffairs.Monklands@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk

Tel no 01698 752300

I hope that you are now feeling better.

Kind Regards,

Jenni
