I had trouble with my breathing last week and my family encouraged me to attend A&E in Daisy Hill Hospital, I contacted the phone first number and was told to come to the hospital.
As I had phoned first, I was expecting to get triaged on arrival, but this took 35 minutes. I was sent back to the waiting area which had no available seats as it was extremely busy. After another long wait I was given a CT scan, only to be told by a doctor to return again to the waiting area, by this stage my breathing was getting progressively worse. A nurse suggested that I get a cubicle and get on a nebulizer, for this I cannot thank them enough.
I spent one night in a cubical, and one night in a corridor and this was horrendous, the lights were on, people were walking up and down past all night, at one stage I was going to get up and leave. Fortunately by day three I was given a bed in Female Surgical, and this for me was the turning point.
The nurses have all been amazing under difficult conditions, but I have been here a total of five days and in that time I have only been seen by a doctor twice, surely this is not right.
"Long wait on a bed!"
