"The kindness of Staff and Doctor"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / General Surgery (Ward 5)

(as a relative),

My Husband had eye surgery at Hairmyres Hospital. The treatment we all received was excellent. The staff went above and beyond to help him as he could not lie flat due to C.O.P.D. The staff and doctor A. Ferne were very sensitive towards him as he has stage 4 bowel cancer which cannot be treated. they even joked with him and that made him relaxed. Numerous times they asked my friend and I if we would like tea or coffee, and made an allowance for myself to sit with him until the operation. It was a lovely experience and we are so grateful. Thank You all so much for your kindness

Dear benji boy

Thank you for sharing such positive feedback, It is really good to read that staff went above and beyond to ensure your husband was appropriately supported throughout the procedure. Many people feel anxious when having surgery on an eye and with other underlyng health conditions, I can imagine how difficult this must have been for your husband and indeed yourself.

I will pass your comments on to Dr Fern and the wider team as all feedback is important to us. Recognising the kindness in others is much appreciated.

Thank you again for taking the time to write.

I hope that your husband is recovering from the surgery and that he continues to receive compassionate care. I

Kind regards

Lise

Dear benji boy,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience when attending University Hospital Hairmyres, day surgery.

I am so pleased to hear that your husband had a positive experience when undergoing his eye surgery. Being able to provide individualised care and in a sensitive, supportive manner was a pleasure for those participating in his journey. I'm also delighted the staff where able to provide time for you to sit with your husband and offer those essential cups of tea.

Thank you for your kind words and I'll be sure to pass these on to the staff.

Best wishes to you both

Pauline
