"Menopause"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Endocrinology (Hormones) General Practices in Grampian

(as the patient),

I asked to be tested to see if I was going through the menopause. I had an in person appointment with the locum GP. She explained that I was indeed going through the menopause. She discussed the different options for HRT. I decided to go with the patches. I was given a 6 week review appointment which I attended and my dosage of patches were increased. I went back to another 6 week review and again my dosage was increased. During a telephone call check in, the locum GP asked if she could contact the Menopause consultant at ARI to ask if I would benefit from progesterone too, as I have had a hysterectomy and she found in recent research this can be beneficial. The consultant got back in touch with my GP and she said to monitor how I am getting on with the higher dosage of patches before maybe trying progesterone. Amazing treatment and care from this GP - Dr McLaren. Great service! Thank you.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us Mortisha.

Despite the menopause being discussed more openly now, it can still take a fair bit of courage to contact the GP and talk about how it’s affecting you. I’m delighted to hear Dr McLaren listened to you, and explained your options, to enable you to work together to find the dose of HRT that is right for you. It can a lot of adjusting, but finding a GP that is knowledgeable, and interested, makes a huge difference.

I'd like to be able to forward your feedback to Dr McLaren and the Practice she is currently based at and wondered if you could confirm which GP Practice you visited? You can do so either by commenting on this thread, or by email (kirsten.dickson@nhs.scot), or phone/text (07885720267). This is because most of the GP Practices in Grampian are independent contractors with a separate feedback and complaints system. They are not currently registered to respond to feedback through the Care Opinion system and don’t routinely access the feedback shared. I won’t share your contact details with the practice – just your feedback.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Take care,

Kirsten
