"Emergency back surgery at Queen Elizabeth Univ Hospital Glasgow"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Accident & Emergency Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Neurosurgery (Ward 64 – 66)

(as the patient),

I tweaked my back and didn't think much about it. Went to bed and when I woke was in terrible pain down my left leg and couldn't feel my right leg at all.  I went to A&E and was sent to Queen Elizabeth Univ Hospital Glasgow to see the specialist team.  I had emergency back surgery where the doctors did a lower right lumber discectomy at L4-L5.  They removed 5cm of disk - the largest  slipped disc they had seen! Whilst in terrible pain before the operation and very worried about the procedure afterwards it was night and day, with very little pain.

I want the thank the team at Ward 65, Harriet, Kirsty, Cat, Amanda, Lisa, Louise, Rick, Mercy, Sharon, Carol, Anne, Jean and everyone else. Plus all the doctors who looked after me throughout my time in the hospital. My thanks also go to the physio team Mary and Emma who encouraged me to get back on my feet, even with a zimmer frame!
