"I didn't feel heard"

About: The Ulster Hospital / Pain Clinic

(as the patient),

I waited 3 years to be seen at the pain clinic and was hoping for support and understanding.

Whilst everyone was welcoming and pleasant, my appointment unfortunately felt rushed.

I was asked if I was tired all the time and I said no, but I was still given a rushed fibromyalgia diagnosis. I didn’t feel heard and was so disappointed.

I believe my pain is caused by being a type 1 diabetic for over 30 years.

I was told that a prescription for an alternative pain relief would be sent to my doctors.

Two months later a prescription request was sent to my GP surgery. Unfortunately the doctor prescribed something which apparently is not allowed on the NHS.

I now have no pain relief on prescription as my GP has removed my original item.

I was told I would receive a call from the doctor in 2 weeks, they never called.

Firstly I would like to apologise that you had a poor experience when you attended the chronic pain department. I would be more than happy to investigate your issues further and hopefully we can manage to reach a satisfactory outcome for you.

In order to help you could I ask for you to contact the Chronic Pain Dept at the Ulster Hospital where the secretaries can then take your information and pass it onto me.

The contact details for the Ulster Hospital is 02890484511, then ask for the Chronic pain department.

Thank you.
