"I feel like I wasn’t taken seriously"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency

(as a service user),

I came to A&E in a lot of pain. I was triaged and sent back out into waiting area. I was in a lot of pain, genuinely sitting doubled over crying in the waiting room and attempted 4 times to ask for pain relief, which was never given until I was eventually taken through to the trolley area.

I was also told I had been in the department the longest on one of the occasions I asked for pain relief - and still waited another few hours before being taken through.

I ended up being admitted as I was actually very unwell, although I feel like I wasn’t taken seriously about my pain until my blood results had come back which was basically proof I wasn’t at it.

I hope to never have to present at A&E again after this experience.

Dear sierrasy54

Thank you for taking the time to share your story of your time in the Emergency Department, although I am very sorry to hear of your negative experience.

I would like to look into this further, if you are happy to email me at kirsty.meikle@nhs.scot, I will be in contact ASAP.

I hope you are recovering well.
