"My experience was professional and efficient"

About: Royal Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

I had an injury to my eye as the result of a gardening accident and I had to attend the Emergency Department of the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

I arrived in the evening and within fifty minutes I was assessed and advised to move to another area. That area was Zone C which I was advised was more specific to my needs.  I was then triaged by a senior nurse or maybe the Sister of the zone. I’m sorry I did not get her name but she was very pleasant and professional and got my details recorded very quickly.

Within around another fifty minutes or so I was called by the Doctor. She introduced herself as Dr Stewart and began to address my injury. Dr Stewart was also very professional, patient, good humoured and eased the pain in my eye very quickly. She then further assessed the damage  to my eye and gave me advice and various treatments to help my recovery.

Emergency Departments are seemingly often criticised, but my experience at this department was professional and efficient. Considering that the department was very busy, my journey from arrival to leaving was very quick.

I think when, after triage, the staff realised they can actually move someone on without waiting for tests or X-rays etc it seemed to me to this was the reason for the very much appreciated efficiency.

Well done to all involved in the ED of the Royal Victoria hospital Belfast.

Dear Eyeplayer,

My name is Linsey Sheerin, I am the Divisional Nurse for Urgent and Emergency Care at Belfast Trust. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on Care Opinion, please do not under estimate the impact of your kind words will have on staff.

Zone C is our Urgent Care / Minor Injury Unit which has been specifically designed to give patients an alternate pathway to the Emergency Department. It is lovely to read that this service was able to meet your needs.

I hope you have made good progress in your recovery.

Linsey
