I got induced so was in the hospital for 3 days before having my little boy. The ward was super busy which I understand due to staff shortages but I sometimes felt isolated due to others being ‘priority’.
My waters broke and was told it wasn’t my waters and was normal. I was bleeding heavily and got told this was normal too. The day of having my little boy I got checked and was 4cm dilated however still no further to the Labour ward with no pain relief which I had previously asked for due to being in so much pain. I hadn’t asked for anything throughout my time in the ward but the pain became unbearable.
The student nurse on shift was lovely. She was helping me with my breathing during contractions and kept trying to get me to the Labour ward but got told it was too busy. The shift changed and the midwife on shift was so nice and understanding. She spoke to me like a person rather than a patient. She kept phoning to get me sent down next on the list as I was in so much pain. When I got sent to the Labour ward, I couldn’t have asked for a better midwife and student. They were amazing!
I was 8cm dilated and only got gas and air as I had went that far without anything already. Once I had my little boy at 8pm the midwife told me that I was to stay the night and then leave in the morning after I had breakfast. She left as her shift ended and the staff which came in were so rude. Didn’t even come to weigh my baby until he had 2 bottles and didn’t seem interested in myself either. I had to ask to get sheets to change my bed as they hadn’t been changed after I had a shower. I was on the phone to my mum at 4am when the midwife came in and started cleaning up my room and I was confused. I just looked over at her and she said “yous are good to go” I felt so uncomfortable. This midwife had a foul attitude .I had just had a baby not had any sleep for 3 nights, my parter hadn’t slept either and we were getting flung out basically. I had no bottles for my little boy as I live with my 91 year old grandmother and didn’t have my keys to get back into the house. I had to approach a nice midwife to receive bottles. I explained my situation and she gave me enough to last the rest of the night and the next day luckily. The midwife’s that came out to see myself and my baby afterwards told me to write this as it is not acceptable for this to happen.
