"Issues with parking"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Outpatients

(as a relative),

The state of the parking arrangements at Forth Valley Royal Hospital is absolutely shocking. I had to bring a relative to the hospital (meaning I had to leave work) at very short notice. A procedure was required meaning a longer stay than anticipated.

I spent 50 minutes looking for a parking space and despite seeing two possibilities sadly the person parking next to the rarely available spaces parked diagonally across their space meaning unless you have a tiny car you can’t park.

It’s just shocking that a hospital serving a massive area like this one has pitifully woeful parking. You either drive the wrong way round the car park and put other people in danger, or you end up without. You take your life in your hands in these car parks.

I am so sorry to read about the difficulties you experienced trying to park your car whilst supporting your relative. I know it can be extremely frustrating and stressful when you arrive at the hospital and then you are faced with trying to find a space to park. It also doesn't help when people park inconsiderately with no thought to others.

We are very aware of the difficulties our patients are experiencing at busy times of the day when parking their cars. We have recently increased the number of disabled spaces within the main visitors care park and created a new car park with 182 car parking spaces at the back of the hospital to try and ease the situation. I do understand that due to inappropriate parking and behaviours by other users it causes difficulties.

A review of parking is currently being undertaken and work continues with our Facilities Management Service Provider who is taking steps to monitor inappropriate parking, parking out with designated parking bays, in short stay areas and in accessible spaces.

I hope this provides some reassurance that we are actively trying to improve the parking situation and I can only apologise for your experience.

If I can be of any further help please contact on on 1324 566162 or by email caroline.logan@nhs.scot.

Kind regards

Caroline
