"Positive stroke solutions course"

About: Adult Health & Support Services / Blantyre Hub ICST (Community Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy) / ICST (Community Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy) East Kilbride

(as the patient),

After I had my stroke in march and was released from hospital I was given a stroke care team who checked in on me regularly. My stroke nurse Annette was fantastic and as I had been really struggling with my mental health following my stroke she recommended I attend the 8 week positive stroke solutions course in the hub in Blantyre.

Sarah contacted me to come meet her for a informal chat to get to know how I was feeling, which to be honest was pretty awful I was crying constantly and feeling really down on myself, she told me that I was coming to the course just on time as it will help me greatly to cope with what's happened to me.

Fast forward to week 7 of course and the changes I have felt have been phenomenal. I have learned through Sarah and Jennifer and the volunteers that it can get better and different coping strategies and relaxation to get me and others through this difficult time. I have met some wonderful survivors and can honestly say I don't know how anyone would cope without this magnificent service it really is a lifesaver.

My husband and friends have seen the changes in me also and in their words every week after course I get a bit more of my old self back which although I was feeling I didn't realise was showing to others. I highly commend everyone who has been involved in my stroke recovery I really couldn't have done it without you thank you so very much ❤️
