My son was born at home with the wonderful support of the Fife birth at home team. I was determined to follow my gut instinct and stick to my plan for a home birth and was fully supported by the team.
My experience of early labour was completely different from what I’d experienced with my first labour. I let the team know I thought I was in early labour and followed my midwife’s advice to get some rest. This was not to be the case though, as the surges started really ramping up in frequency and intensity very quickly and I called the hospital to request that my midwife came as soon as she could.
My labour moved incredibly fast and intensely and I was so grateful for the hypnobirthing techniques I’d learned through NHS Fife’s hypnobirthing service. My pool wasn’t full in time but luckily my midwife arrived just in time to reassure us both and guide us through the final few breaths of labour.
We were in the best hands as she calmly and quietly supported us professionally and unobtrusively. I feel so lucky for myself and my family to have been supported by the incredible birth at home team before, during and after my son’s birth. Their care and professionalism were second to none.
