"My mother's care"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / General surgery

(as a relative),

My mum was recently admitted to ward B31 and I noticed how confused my mum was becoming and I was concerned as there was talk of home. I work in the NHS and I do not like complaining, I know how stretched and short staffed we are, but I feel there is no excuse for what happened next.

So I had been in and showered my mum who was still really confused, mum was also going for dialysis that day. I spoke to a staff nurse and for roughly 20 mins. I expressed my concerns and told them my mum could not go home as I was sure she had delirium - mental health were meant to come and see her but they didn't. Mum was sent home still in that delirious state, seeing things and not knowing who people were. It was awful, you still sent her home, my mum is also a recent amputee.

My mum must have been home no longer than an hour and she was back to A&E, she was also missing a bottle of haloperidol.

The standard of care in the ward was not very good at all, in m y experience. Whenever I asked a member of staff how my mum had been, all I heard was I don't know, or I think she slept and was settled, and in same breath no I think she had an episode........of what? I am not very happy at all I am sure that you understand why I am so annoyed .
