"I couldn’t have done it without the support of the midwives"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as a service user),

I recently had my 2nd child at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital (AMH) and the team of midwives I had were all fantastic!

Starting with Jordan, she was absolutely amazing, went above & beyond for me! Helping me through contractions with words of encouragement.  She was fab to my partner also, ensuring he was included.  I then had Emma, who supported me with kindness & empathy through the worst of my contractions & when I asked for information about an epidural she gave me the pros & cons and discussed all my options & was so kind when I asked to be transferred for the epidural.

When in the labour ward Jodi & Olivia were my next midwives, and were paramount to me achieving the birth that I wanted!  They really listened to what I wanted and what was important to me and spoke through everything step by step to ensure I was making informed decisions about my birth.  They gave me the facts, their advice & then allowed me and my partner time to discuss alone and make our own decisions and they did all of this with the utmost respect even when the consultant was quite pushy & seemed to not care about my birth preferences.

Jodi & Olivia we’re so lovely and I’m so happy I had them there to deliver my daughter in the way that I wanted and they helped my partner and I have such a memorable, positive experience for our last child’s birth.   In comparison to my first birth which was only 4 hours, this one was physically much more demanding for me lasting 31 hours and in the end I couldn’t have done it without the support of the midwives at Aberdeen maternity unit & labour ward.
