My mother was misdiagnosed by the practice Nurse Practitioner as having a chest infection. In fact my mother had lung cancer which had spread to her liver, and lymph nodes and a lesion on her kidney.
The COPD nurse failed to follow up on their promise to refer my mum to the district nurse services, leading to untreated bed sores. Occupational Therapy didn't come and see my mum until she was bedridden. She was then given a mattress to prevent sores, a toilet frame, step, bed rail, shower pole, commode, shower grab rails and a wheelchair. She was unable by then to have a shower.
The COPD nurse told the MacMillan nurse that they came to see my mum regularly. They had been once. When I called the district nurse out, they turned up eight hours later via the Hub, stating to me that they had no record of my repeated calls or voice messages that I had left.
District nurses also said to me that district nurse doesn’t do stick-ons when I called to say my mum’s pad had come off her lower back.
