My Mother had a cancerous lump removed from her leg. She is 83 with early stage dementia. 3 days after the operation she started to feel unwell, vomiting and her leg was hurting badly. She could not move from her bed. Eventually we managed to access some support via 111, but the community nurse who visited initially gave poor advice, including to cancel the ambulance that we had called.
When the ambulance arrived (we were not happy with her advice) it was established that she had an infection and she was taken to hospital. After a difficult weekend, including being discharged from hospital at 3am (with my 83 year old Father left to bring her home in a taxi while she was still vomiting and in great pain), we finally found a route to arrange for a visit from the frailty support team on the Monday morning.
From the moment the Frailty Team became involved, my Mother has been given exceptional care and all of us are so relieved to know she is in such good hands. Initially Millie visited and was incredibly kind, professional and supportive. The team has continued to care for my Mother and the service provided cannot be faulted. The family felt such relief once the care was in place.
