Attended Dundee vaccination centre for winter vaccine for my husband. Not one mask was worn by any of the vaccinators or staff, no hand sanitiser was available and not hand cleaning facilities. Not even a bin on site for dirty tissues etc.

Everyone sitting coughing and spluttering in the waiting area for sitting after your vaccination. It was so packed and full of germs my husband chose not to sit there and wait in this horrible atmosphere as I am severely immuno-suppressed and have various health conditions. This is supposed to be a safe place to come for your vaccine but we won’t be going back there again.

Dear DS59,

thank you for taking the time to share your concerns with us, and I am sorry to hear that it has not been as positive as we would wish.

Following a review, on the 16 May 2023, Scottish Government withdrew guidance on the extended use of face masks and face coverings in hospitals, primary care and community healthcare settings, due to the high uptake of vaccinations from both staff and members of the public. This means that visitors and staff are no longer required to routinely wear face coverings, although visitors can, of course, continue to wear a mask when attending appointments should they wish to do so.

There are both bins and hand sanitisers throughout the centre, however, I have asked staff to ensure they are placed in more prominent areas. There are also public toilets located beside the vaccinating stations for handwashing facilities.

Hopefully this provides some assurance that all infection control guidelines are being followed. However, we do appreciate the concerns and anxieties experienced, as a result of the Pandemic, especially when you have underlying health conditions.
