My stepmother was taken into hospital at Argyll and then transferred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for vascular surgery to try to help chronic ulcers on her legs. Unfortunately she deteriorated. However my experience of the care from the staff both trained and untrained was excellent. Kind and caring to both her and her daughter. She was placed on a palliative care plan, discussed fully, with time for questions by one of the team (Fiona). Please thank Fiona especially for her time at first contact and checking in later to further discuss anything else and say how we thought things were like from our perspective. Not once was my sister made to feel that conversation was under any time constraints and she was allowed to take time to say how her mother and she felt if this situation arose.
There was also a member of staff (unfortunately I forget his name) who made sure everything was checked frequently, moved position in bed, checked on us as well. He was so lovely in the manner he worked/his communication. The staff worked well as a team. Staff nurse changed medication as advised which helped with pain relief which was as much help to my sister as her mother. I watched my own mother go through similar and I had no criticism of her care then, it was very good but the staff at the hospital could not have helped any more from my experience this time. Small things like the person coming to check menus being considerate and popping back to speak to my sister instead of me when I asked if that was possible just made such a difference. Thank you to all the team.
