"Lighting on the ward"

You’re expected to lie in a ward with lights on the whole night, you can’t pull your curtain round to try and keep a bit of light out or for any privacy. How are people expected to look after their sick children when you're sitting in basically day light all night and nurses are then in first thing wakening them? Lights should be able to be turned off to allow people to rest!

Dear gj.21111,
Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback regarding the ward lighting. To ensure patient safety we have policy's in place regarding lighting/curtains. The policy states that night lights require to be on in all areas overnight and that curtains around the beds must be open unless required for personal care/examination. This is in order that nursing staff can easily see patients and can spot any early signs of deterioration. However I apologise that this caused you distress during what must have been a difficult period coming into hospital. If you would like to discuss this further please contact me on 01698 366205.
