"Painful Wait for Treatment"

About: Ninewells Hospital / General Surgery

(as a service user),

I had gall bladder removal in October 2021.  The following year, early 2022, when I had a really bad cold, I coughed really badly and popped at least one hernia.  I reported this to my GP and a referral was made.  I was eventually seen later in the year and told I would need scanning, after which I would be seen again by surgeon in March 2023.

I had the scanning done; however, I have heard nothing since.  My GP has advised there are 2 umbilical hernias and they are quite painful.  If I look up NHS Tayside online to try to find out who to contact I cannot find the information.  I know waiting lists are poor; however, to tell me I would be seen in March this year and it is now September, feels very poor and communication would have been appreciated.  I just feel ignored.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience which sounds awful. I wish to apologise that you have had an unacceptable wait without any communication. If you would like to email your details which include your name, address and date of birth to the feedback team on tay.feedback@nhs.scot, this will allow us to investigate your concerns.
