"Very impressed and felt well looked after"

About: Aberdeen Health and Care Village / GMED NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service)

(as a service user),

I contacted the out of hours service a few weeks ago on return from my holiday. Unfortunately, I had sustained quite bad sunburn that had blistered. I contacted 111 and was put through to a doctor within the hour.

I spoke with Dr Fumakia who did an over the phone assessment followed by a near me video call assessment. He was very thorough, professional and kind during the assessment especially as I felt very foolish for getting so burnt.

He provided me with antibiotics, cream and pain relief which was much appreciated and recommended follow up advice from the GP/Practice nurse.

Overall, I was very impressed and felt well looked after by Dr Fumakia. Thank you!

Dear PJSMLB

Thank for sharing your experience on Care Opinion. I'm sorry to learn of your sunburn incident which can happen all too easily. I hope you are doing well.

It's good of you to thank the Out of Hours Doctor who assessed you and provided antibiotics. I have asked the Care Opinion Team to tag your story to your local Health Board, as well as NHS 24, as the Out of Hours GP are employed by the local Boards. This means they will get to see your story and hopefully share this appropriately with Dr Fumakia.

It appears our staff here at NHS 24 recognised you needed further assessment and made the necessary arrangements which is great to see.

Take care meantime and when in the sun again remember to Slip, Slop, Slap....Slip on a shirt, Slop on the Sunscreen and Slap on a hat!

Take care

Shona

Hello PJSMLB,

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback on Care Opinion. I am sorry to hear that you were unwell but thankful that you received the appropriate care and now recovering.

My name is Osi, I am the Operations Manager for Out of Hours Primary Care Service (GMED) and I work alongside Dr Fumakia. I am very happy to read about your positive experience with GMED and with Dr Fumakia. At GMED, we work really hard to make sure we continue to provide our patient with the very best patient centred care at the right time, at the right place and by the right person. So, it is very reassuring and encouraging to read your experience with GMED and about the care provided by Dr Fumakia.

We frequently conduct service reviews to identify things we can change and make the necessary improvements to our care delivery and giving you were contacted by Dr Fumakia within an hour of you contacting NHS24, is evident that our service improvements are working.

I will pass on your feedback to Dr Fumakia and I know he will be happy to receive it. Thank you once again for taking the time to post your feedback.

Osi
