"So helpful and reassuring"

About: General practices in Tayside Physiotherapy Services / Angus First Contact Physiotherapy

(as a service user),

I woke up one night with intense pain in the back of my hip and leg, the pain was so bad I almost phoned an ambulance.  I have Psoriatic Arthritis so already have various painkillers and I eventually managed to reduce the pain enough with painkillers and positioning to let me get back to sleep.  I phoned my doctor the next day and was given an appointment quickly, to get stronger painkillers and they recommended I get a telephone appointment with the physio in a few days.

I spoke with Jill from the physio service a few days later and she was so helpful and reassuring.  I was so worried this was something serious as I had cancer previously too and you always worry it will come back.  She gave me advice on gentle exercises to do and assured me it wasn't something serious, probably sciatica from nerve irritation in my back, it would settle in around 10 days.  I should arrange another appointment if it didn't settle down.

I felt so much better after the call in that my level of worry was much reduced.  The pain has indeed settled considerably.  Just wanted to thank Jill for listening to me and helping me understand what was happening.

Dear Edradour

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide feedback following your recent first contact physiotherapy appointment. I'm delighted to hear that it was such a positive experience for you and that Jill was helpful and reassuring. I am also pleased to hear that you were provided with a telephone appointment so promptly after contacting your GP. I work within this department and I will ensure your kind words are passed onto Jill who I'm sure will be pleased to hear that her advice has helped and that you are feeling much better.

Thank you once again for sharing your positive experience with us.

Best wishes

Leanne Macdonald (AHP Physiotherapy Support Worker, Arbroath Infirmary)

Dear Edradour

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your GP. Feedback is very valuable to all areas of the NHS, and I'm sure the GP and staff will be pleased to hear that because your GP saw you quickly and referred you for Physiotherapy straight away, your experience has been positive. As each GP Practice is an independent business, we would recommend that you feedback your experience directly to the practice to allow this to be passed on to the staff concerned. The Practice Manager can give you with details of how to provide this feedback to them, as per their Complaints and Feedback Policy.

With best wishes

Victoria Sullivan
