Follow up after my surgery 2 years ago due to a pain in my kidney. It had taken me several months at getting an appointment due to what I find to be an inefficient system that operates for the gynaecology department whereby they can not make appointment dates available if you can not make one that fits into their system, so you have to go back on the waiting list and get sent another letter for another appointment that you can’t make, etc, etc. they are wasting money because they are not asking patients if the date/time suits them in advance or opening up appointments in the future if it doesn’t.
In July I came back from a holiday of two weeks to a letter that said they had booked an appointment for me two days in the past! Anyway finally got an appointment in Causeway hospital that suited and when I told them that I had a pain in my kidneys they said they weren’t qualified to check this and that they would need to make another appointment.
I can’t be the only one this happens to. I think the nhs is wasting money due to inefficient systems and information not being passed on. No-one had obviously checked my notes. Which I saw were all written by another doctor that no one had any hope of reading. I mean it feels archaic. It was a locum who I saw and they did the best they could in the situation.
Although they did ask me why I had come today and why I thought the pain was in my kidneys? I mean what are those patient notes for? and because I know where my kidneys are! They did do some other examinations to check on the endometriosis which I guess was a good thing, but I left feeling completely violated as everything is so clinical. At one point the assistant staff member tried to leave the cubical mid examination! Thankfully the locum told them no way that they were opening that curtain.
