"Diagnosis and discharge"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / General Surgery Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Orthopaedics Dr Gray's Hospital / Orthopaedics (Bones, Joints and Fractures)

(as a relative),

My mother-in-law -  who is in her 80s - was admitted to Dr Grays after a fall at home.

The hospital failed to diagnosis a fractured pelvis and failed to diagnose cancer in her hips. They discharged her as fit to go home to live alone with no services. She decided to stay with her daughter.

She was up all night in severe pain. My sister-in-law called her own GP in the morning, who felt that she should not have been discharged. The GP admitted her to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, orthopaedic department, who diagnosed the fractured pelvis and cancer in her hip joints. She has had both hips pinned electively as they were in danger of breaking.

Dear Eclipsed,

I am so sorry to hear about your mother's care with us at Dr Gray's Hospital, this is far from acceptable and not how I would want anyone to be treated.

I would be keen to find out more information from you, so that I can look into this further, to prevent anyone else from having a similar experience and improve our service to our community.

Please can get in touch with me directly, by either emailing me on Lesley.gow@nhs.scot or calling me directly on 07580 962 970.

Again, I very sorry and I look forward to hearing from you.

Lesley
