"Great support"

About: Parent Support Link

(as a parent/guardian),

My son became depressed through various changes in his/our life and he got heavily in to cannabis, leading to him messing up his school exams, part time job and it changed him as a person. In this time he stole money from us and got into a lot of debt.

I have always supported him and things are a lot better than they were 5 years ago, but he still will not give up the cannabis, meaning he keeps repeating the same negative actions. I know he wants to change, but does not see that the main thing that sends him off track is the cannabis.

I felt sad, helpless and often blamed myself, When they are children it is easy to guide them and help them but as an adult it is so much harder. I know that growing up, I gave him all that I could, both physically and mentally, but I have realised through engaging with PSL that it is not my fault and I am not the only one that it happens to.

I have had great support from PSL.

Thank you for taking the time to share your story. It can be challenging to witness our loved ones engaging in behavior with negative consequences, yet refusing to cease their actions. As you're aware, there's no quick solution, but it appears that progress has been made, and hopefully, it will continue in that direction. Recognising that we can only control ourselves and not someone else is a significant step, and I applaud you for that, as it's not an easy feat. We hope you continue to receive the support you require from us, and that your son receives the assistance he needs as well.

Thank you again and take care of yourself.
